Had a wonderful day with these little ones! The physical therapist came for both Cade and Abigail today! Cade is doing great! they worked on walking up the stairs holding on to the spindles instead of crawling. Of course Annabelle was going right behind him making sure she could do everything, or learning quickly, that Cade was doing. The therapist, Melissa, always laughs at how fast she picks up on things and even takes time to show her things even though she's not the reason for the visit. Who could ignore Annabelle, I mean, goodness! Cade also practiced kicking a ball and got a massage. Sheez, I need some physical therapy!
Miss Abigail brought tears to my eyes today. Melissa was telling me what her next goal should be: to sit up in a tripod ( hands on her legs, learning forward) position with some support from us for about 8 seconds. She was going on about how it should happen in about a month or 2 with how good she is doing. (she has been sitting in her bumbo chair a lot already, which was way ahead of what anyone had hoped for, thought it would be around 6 mths.) Anyway, as Melissa did a demonstration for me to see the correct position. Abigail seemed to understand exactly what she should do..and Melissa tested her to see if she could do it for a couple of seconds.....and Abigail sat there for 20 seconds. She even "corrected" when she began to tilt. Melissa was shocked! She told me her head control was 100% complete. At 4 mths and 3 weeks, she had only hoped for a little bit of head control while pushing up and laying on her tummy. She was so pleased that she asked me to go get Annabelle's old exersaucer. She put a fluffy towel under her feet so she could touch down once she was in the seat. We put a blanket behind her to push her forward more so she had to work to keep her head up to play with the toys on the tray part. Abigail sat there delighted for over 10 minutes while pushing up on her legs to support her a good bit of the time.. Melissa just shook her head and told me it was unheard of for a Downs baby. The best part was that Cade and Annabelle came running over to the exersaucer and could play with her even more. She smiled and ate it up! Such a blessing! I just wanted to cry. Little Downs angels face so many challenges and yet God made her so strong! Before Melissa left, she told me Abigail would break all her previous records of milestones for working with a child with DS. She's been doing this for over 20 yrs. My heart danced! I pray she can continue to grow strong, and I pray for all of us in this boat, waiting and watching to see how our babies will develop cognitively and physically. I know we'll all be proud and cherish our angels with whatever comes, but it was great for me to know she will run and play with her siblings someday, a little sooner than I had thought!!
One little silly thing the twins have done this week:
I needed to go find some picture frames - I know, who me, need something to put pictures in? ha ha! Anyway, I was pushing the twins in their double stroller in Hobby Lobby and Abigail was on the buggy I was pulling behind me as usual. Cade started squealing a bit and I told him a couple of times to hush! I can't really see over the canopy of their stroller that well and heard him sounding kind of odd. After trying to look at a couple of frames, I caught sight of them. Annabelle was sitting with her hand over his mouth... and he seemed to accept that she was an outside form of "self" control for him. He allowed it for a little while. I just giggled as we paraded through the store. Plenty more stares and "you've got your hands full" comments! LOL!
Love these little ones!
